The room
The Elkhorn is a house, not a room: three bedrooms, a bunk room, two and a half bathrooms and 1,840 square feet on the ridge above the lodge, with a private hot tub on the deck and no neighbours in the frame.
Families take the Elkhorn for Christmas week and book the next one before they leave. It has the things large groups actually need: a dining table for ten, two dishwashers, a laundry room, a boot room with heat, and a living room with a 22-foot ceiling where everyone can sit at once.
The primary bedroom faces the range from the upper floor. Two further king bedrooms sit on the main level, and a bunk room with two doubles takes the children out of the way of the adults' evening. Every bed has the same mattress and linen as the lodge.
Outside there is a covered deck with a gas grill, a firepit ringed with chairs, and a hot tub set into the deck boards at the western corner. On a clear night the light pollution is low enough to pick out the Milky Way from the water.
